The 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor Flexes Beefy Upgrades – Finally, the Ford Maverick could be ready to tackle the wild. We’ve been waiting for the tiny truck to conquer big challenges since its debut. Now the 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor is ready to shake things up with significant off-roading upgrades.
We’ve seen the Ford F-150 Tremor and the Ford Ranger Tremor, but we’re still waiting for the 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor to arrive. It’s the only truck that’s being left out of the woods without an upgraded off-roading package.
But spy photos recently captured a Ford Maverick model with orange accents and enhanced off-roading equipment, such as tow hooks. We know where you’re thinking. The Ford Explorer Timberline and other SUVs have orange accents too.
Ford CEO Jim Farley used yesterday’s second quarter earnings call to hint at new Maverick variants and an assortment of new models.
While the executive didn’t go into specifics, he said “Our design center is filled with new products and derivatives that will further strengthen our hit vehicles in the ICE and hybrid franchises like F-150 and Bronco and Maverick.”
Speaking of the compact pickup, Farley said “You can only imagine the kind of things that we’re cooking up in our design studio with Maverick.” He didn’t elaborate, but spy photographers have already snapped pictures of a Maverick Tremor and what appears to be a plug-in hybrid variant with all-wheel drive.

Details
The 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor is expected to take things a bit further than the Ford Maverick FX4 package. Based on spy shots, it’s safe to expect tow hooks, skid plates, a suspension lift, and a revised front bumper to improve its approach angle.
Plus, the Maverick Tremor will ride on a larger set of wheels that could be wrapped in Falken Wildpeak All Terrain tires. The Ford F-150 Tremor also has a wider stance, an electronic locking rear differential, and off-roading modes like Rock Crawl and Trail Control.
The Ford Maverick Tremor could have an upgraded suspension like the F-150 Tremor. It has unique front springs, rear leaf springs, rear piggyback reservoirs, and off-road-tuned FOX 2.0 monotube dampers.
It’s possible that the Ford Escape-based Maverick can’t handle a robust off-roading system with a locking differential. However, it could gain the twin-clutch setup from the Ford Bronco Sport. It would be easy to drop right in.
The Tremor package might only be available with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas-powered engine with 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque.
Exterior
There are bound to be chassis upgrades for the 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor, but such upgrades are not immediately clear. It’s likely to see damper upgrades, at minimum, likely borrowed from the Ford Bronco Sport. That said, the tires appear unique to the Maverick Tremor.
The Ford Bronco Sport Badlands utilizes the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W tire. The 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor will use the Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail, a slightly less aggressive and more cost-effective choice.
How much is the Maverick Tremor?
The 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor package might only be available with the XLT and Lariat trims. The 2022 Maverick XLT starts at around $23,775, and the Lariat increases the price to about $26,895.
You have to upgrade to the 2.0-liter engine and add AWD for about $3,100. Then the FX4 package is another $800. So, the Maverick Tremor could reach $30,000.
What’s under the hood of this prototype? We do not know for sure. It may be any number of turbocharged engine options. It may be a high-performance 2.0-liter turbocharged gas I4 engine. It may be a sporty 2.3-liter turbocharged I4 engine.
It may also be a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 that is also used in the Ford Edge ST. No matter what, we are predicting about 300-330 horsepower for this hot street truck.
Let us know what you think in the comments below. Should Ford produce and sell a Maverick ST pickup? Should Ford continue to make more off-road-worthy versions of the Maverick, such as the Maverick Tremor or something along those lines?
