2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid News, Changes and Release Date – Ford will be swapping out the standard engine on the Maverick compact pickup for 2024, according to a new report. The 2024 Ford Maverick will no longer have a hybrid engine as the default option, with a gas-only unit replacing it.
The news, reported by Ford Authority, isn’t the substantial change to the Ford Maverick it might seem at first. There are no new powerplants, and none are going away.
But the report says that Ford is making the 2.0L Ecoboost four-cylinder the standard engine and making the 2.5L hybrid drive system a no-cost option. Previously, the 2.5L was standard but the 2.0 was a no-cost option.
There’s a simple explanation, and it’s one we’ve heard plenty over the last three years: supply chain. Ford is said to be having trouble getting enough hybrid drivelines to meet demand.
During the 2023 model year, Ford was already telling customers that opting for the Ecoboost instead of a hybrid would help get their trucks built and delivered more quickly.
This change is likely to affect U.S. buyers only, and not Canadian customers. The reason is that in America, the 2.0L four is offered with front-wheel drive. In Canada, the Ecoboost is AWD-only, and the 2.5L hybrid turns only the front wheels in both countries.

2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid News
The 37-mpg hybrid version of the 2024 Ford Maverick is no longer the cheapest version in the lineup. The turbo-4 non-hybrid is now the base engine.
According to Ford, the 2024 Maverick XL starts at $24,995, including the $1,595 destination charge, while the Maverick Hybrid XL starts at $26,495. That’s effectively a $1,500 surcharge for the Maverick Hybrid over the turbo-4.
It adds up to $5,005 more than the 2022 Maverick hybrid cost when it was introduced—or 23% more than two model years ago. But until anyone else enters the market, Ford provides the only truck that’s close to compact in the U.S.
As automakers scale up the production of hybrid tech, it becomes cheaper to make, while the mileage gains it allows becomes an operating-cost no-brainer for buyers.
2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid Changes
Following an initial report, The Drive received confirmation from the automaker that the 2024 Maverick will come standard with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder. While that sounds like good news, as the engine produces 250 hp (186 kW / 253 PS) and 277 lb-ft (375 Nm) of torque, it comes at a cost.
In particular, the price of the truck will reportedly climb to $24,995 including destination. Depending on the specifics, it wouldn’t be too much of an increase as the 2023 Maverick XL EcoBoost starts at $22,595 before factoring in the $1,595 destination fee.
2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid Release Date
Order books for the 2024 Maverick pickup will open on July 17 . That would be the first time retail customers could order the hottest little hauler on the market since late last year; order books for the 2024 Maverick closed in late September of 2023.
We should not expect a generous order window this time around, either. The 2024 Maverick is anticipated to remain in production at Ford’s Hermosillo, Mexico plant until October of this year, not long before the 2024 trucks start at the head of the lines.
According to various posts at forums like Maverick Chat and Maverick Truck Club, though, it’s looking like plenty of customers for this model year are going to have to decide about rolling over to next.
